Defence Minister A K Antony called for devising effective strategies to reduce stress among the defence forces, and said that equal and adequate attention must be paid to human resource to keep them motivated and contented.

"All our investment in equipment and machinery will not yield the desired results, till the human resource is looked after well," Antony said after he inaugurated the state-of-the-art Molecular Imaging Research Centre in the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) here today, which will now have a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) facility.

He also said that the defence forces of the country must reorient themselves with the changing times where future wars will be high technology intensive, shorter in duration, demanding higher levels of endurance and the soldiers will be required to use high-end weapons.

"The selection procedures and training methodology must be reoriented with the changing times," he said, adding that the low intensity conflicts are likely to be the order of the day.

"However, considering that low intensity conflicts are likely to be the order of the day, our Armed Forces will have to be ever prepared for a conventional war on a routine basis," he added.

He also said that in an age of easy availability of information, too much of secrecy can be detrimental to long-term requirements and interests of the defence force.
