Around 27 children in West Bengal suffered from skin rashes and other issues after they were given expired vaccines. The state government has suspended four officials including a District Medical Officer (Health) in relation to this incident.

"We are investigating the matter after we received the complaints yesterday. Action will be taken against those responsible,” District Chief Medical Officer (Health) Bhusan Chakraborty said. The incident occurred in Khanakul area of the Hoogly district.

State Health Minister Suryakanta Mishra told the Assembly that they had taken prompt action against the concerned officials after being apprised of the incident.

It has emerged that several children received vaccines for Japanese encephalitis in Khanakul recently. The father of one of the kids noticed that the expiry date of the vaccines was May 2009 and brought it to the attention of the officials.
