Calling All Movie Buffs - Wear Your Favorite Movie on Your Glasses

by Tanya Thomas on Aug 18 2008 8:58 AM

If you happen to be a movie buff and want to wear images of your favorite films on a pair of glasses, then 'cinematique frames' shall be the end of your quest! An optician in Budapest, Hungary can manufacture custom-made spectacles to suit your tastes using recycled strips of famous movies.

Zakarias Tipton, 29, has revealed that he started experimenting with vinyl and plastic glass frames about eight years ago.

"I began testing all sorts of plastic until I found my father's record collection, and then I started recycling those without his knowledge," news agency Xinhua quoted him as saying.

Tipton runs his funky eyewear business with his brother in Budapest, and their collection is sold across Europe and North America.

He has revealed that the cinematique frames are made by recycling 35mm and 16mm movies, which he collects from cinemas.

"They (customers) tell us they'd like a film from Woody Allen or they want Mission Impossible 3 in their frame or they want a picture of some famous actor, then we will make it here and ship it to them," Tipton said.

Tipton, who moved to Hungary at the start of this decade, is targeting increasingly affluent eastern European customers with a list of about 300 films to choose from.

According to him, the frames are designed on a computer and a company in Italy manufactures them.
