CNN's World's Most Eco-Friendly Beach Award Goes to the Oz Whitehaven

The world's best eco-friendly beach is The Whitehaven in Australia's Whitesunday Islands, global news network CNN declared.

The sparkling 4.3km Whitehaven Beach has won many awards, including Cleanest Beach in Queensland, and national awards for resource recovery and environmental protection.

EU Tourist Advisory Names 500 European Beach Spots To Be 'Avoided'
Swimmers should avoid some 500 European beaches, lakes and rivers for health reasons, the European Commission said on Thursday after a survey of nearly 20,000 sites.

"The breathtaking beach is located on Whitsunday Island, the largest of a 74-island chain," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted CNN as telling about the beach.

"Visitors are limited by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and must register with a tour guide for access," said CNN.

The network also said that most of its eco-friendly beaches remain in good condition because of limited access.

Beach Umbrellas Fail to Block UV Rays from the Sun
Researchers from the University of Valencia (UV) have found that 34 percent of ultraviolet radiation filters through under beach umbrellas.

Italian travel website Viaggi Republica has replicated the list on their site.

Tourism Whitsundays CEO Peter O'Reilly said that Whitehaven Beach was the only Australian beach to be honoured.

Malaysian Beaches Becoming Infamous for Sexual Activities
Malaysian anti-vice volunteers catch close to 10 nude couples on a daily basis along the Tok Jembal and Teluk Ketapang beaches, which are becoming infamous for sexual activities.

"This is a huge honour and one which everyone in the Whitsundays, and Australia, should be proud of," said O'Reilly.
