Britain’s Labor Wants To Do The Humbug to Save The Planet

Scrooge ministers in the UK have proposed a novel way to save the planet – switch off the Christmas fairy lights! The govt also suggested that by closing down festive lights, Britain would be able to save up to 70 million pounds.

Environment minister Lord Rooker said that the measure would cut greenhouse gases by 650,000 tons – equivalent to the amount of gases emitted by flying a jumbo jet between London and Miami every day for a year.

However, Tories have accused Labour of spoiling Christmas.

“I’m all for effective measures to tackle climate change but we don’t need to turn into Scrooge,” The Sun quoted Shadow environment secretary Peter Ainsworth, as saying.

But Lord Rooker defended the plan, insisting: “We are not the Government that is going to spoil Christmas for the children in this country.”
