Brit Granny Has Surgery to Treat Depression
In what could prove to be a major breakthrough for the fight against depression, a team of scientists from Bristol have found out a new form of surgery that will provide long term help for people struggling with depression.
Known as deep brain stimulation, the surgery involves implantation of electrodes in the brain which then use power from a small battery pack to provide small amount of electricity to stimulate a specific area of the brain.

The surgery is being currently trialed out among eight patients suffering from depression and has already successfully allowed a 62-year old grandmother to overcome her suicidal tendencies that were caused due to depression.

Torquay’s Sheila Cook has been suffering from depression for more than nine years and admitted that she had often thought about ending it all by committing suicide. However she revealed that such tendencies have disappeared since she underwent the surgery.

“I suddenly woke up in the morning and I thought I feel different, I want to get up, I want to do things. And my whole view of life changed”, Cook added.
