Baby's DNA Will be Enhanced by Mother's Milk

Researchers at the University of Illinois have revealed that the quality of the baby's DNA will be enhanced by consuming mother's milk. In a study, the researchers found that the first food received by the baby has the potential to alter gene expression. This is why breast milk may be healthy for babies. In the study, the researchers compared 10 infants who had formula food with 12 infants fed breast milk. They found that most genes enhanced by breast milk hasten the development of immunity.

Lead researcher Sharon Donovan of the University of Illinois explained that it is well-known that breast milk contains several components that enhance immunity.

“But what we haven’t known is how breast milk protects the infant and particularly how it regulates the development of the intestine,” she told LiveScience. “Genes are really sensitive to nutrition. And we now have genes that may explain many of the clinical observations of how breast—fed and formula—fed infants differ."
