Ahmedabad is SAD in the Grips of ‘Winter Blues’
Along with feeling cold in Gujarat, people are also feeling SAD, or getting affected with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) syndrome. The symptoms of SAD are feeling low and depressed , also widely known as 'Winter Blues'. According to psychiatrists , there has been a 25% increase in psychiatric cases in the city.

Symptoms of SAD include extreme feeling of gloom, restlessness, loneliness, irritability, and loss of libido.

Thankfully, this is a temporary phase which can be relieved with psychotherapy and counselling sessions.

According to Dr Prashant Bhimani, a hypnotherapist,   silent SAD syndrome has gone up in the last fortnight. "The main reason for this increase is inadequate sunlight. This disturbs the body's hormonal balance," Bhimani said.

Dr Vinod Goyal, psychotherapist, said "The number of such cases has shot up in the last two weeks because of the intensifying cold wave and cloudy weather prevailing in the city," he said. "SAD symptoms worsen in dim light and cold weather."
