US researchers have reported that about 1/3rd people in the country encounter some kind of medical error during their hospital stay. These mistakes range from bedsores or pressure ulcers to objects left in the body post surgery or life-threatening staphylococcal infections. This suggests the need for improvement of health care quality. The study which has been published recently in the journal ‘Health Affairs’ states that about 90% of hospital errors go unrecorded. The study indicates that about 1 in 3 Americans are likely to suffer from some medical error during their hospital stay.
Editor-in-Chief of Health Affairs, Susan Dentzer said, "Without doubt, we've seen improvements in health care over the past decade, and even pockets of excellence, but overall progress has been agonizingly slow."
