75 Percent Britons Prefer To Watch Live TV: Study

According to a new study, almost 75 percent of Britons still prefer to watch live TV rather than on-demand and catch-up options.

Almost 3000 people were polled by Digital Spy, a large UK entertainment site, to discover TV viewing habits of people in Britain, The Telegraph reports.

Television viewing is a cause of increased body fatness and reducing television viewing is a promising strategy for preventing childhood obesity.

The study found that 20.5 percent people watched live TV on their iPads, while 26.5 percent accessed live programmes on iPhones and about 8.9 percent watched on Android-powered devices.

Sky got the top priority as the preferred platform for catching up with programmes, with 57.5 percent of audiences preferring to use the pay-TV platform.

Sky even emerged as the most favoured platform for on-demand movies with 49 percent preferring to use it.

Recent studies have revealed that four-year olds who watched few minutes of a popular television show compromised on their attention span and problem solving ability.

The study revealed that 45.7 percent of viewers preferred to watch programmes on demand via their computers.

Despite people enjoying accessing content live, such as big-ticket events like ITV's Britain's Got Talent (pictured), they often multi-tasked, surfing the web and posting comments on social networking sites, while watching a show.

Children who spend long hours in front of television or computers are said to be at a greater risk for developing various diseases later in life.

People preferred to post comments while watching TV, with almost 44.6 percent preferring to post comments on Facebook.

Almost 39.8 percent people preferred to post comments on Twitter.

Parent-Child Communication Hampered By The Television
Background TV in homes takes a toll on the interactions between parents and young children, according to a new study.

The BBC iPlayer was the most popular on-demand service, followed by YouTube and then the ITV Player.

David Moynihan, Digital Spy's editor said: "It is interesting to discover that such a large number of people still prefer to watch TV live, especially with the emergence of TV on demand and additional +1 TV channels".
