7 Year Itch Splits Gay Marriages too

As in heterosexual marriages, divorces are getting common in gay marriages too. Statistics show a rise in the number of gay couples 'separating' and 2012 saw a 20 percent rise in split ups. The rate of divorces in England and Wales have soared from 663 in 2011 to 794 in 2012, while the number of new UK civil partnerships increased upto 7,037 in 2011, the Daily Express reported.

Alison Hawes, who is a family lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, said that its expected that homosexual relationships will follow the general trends of heterosexual marriage and divorce.

She added that it was a common generalization that there is a seven-year itch when relationships supposedly become more difficult and statistics show that the first 10 years are the most vulnerable in every marriage.

According to the Office for National Statistics, women were most likely to opt for splitting, with almost six out of 10 dissolutions involving lesbian couples and a total of 60,454 gay and lesbian couples have opted to dissolute their relationship.
