256-year-old Guinness Beer to Become Vegan-Friendly Drink by 2016
The most famous beer company in the world, Guinness has announced that it is going to alter its 256-year-old filtration process to make it more vegan-friendly.
The company uses fish bladder in its brewing process to make yeast settle faster and clarify the liquid. But traces of fish ending up in the final products. After receiving an online petition, it has decided to change its way of brewing.

The fish bladder also called as isinglass is actually a type of collagen. It is unsuitable for vegans as it is an animal product. The company is finding out ways to filter beer without using animal products and the new technique will be implemented from 2016.

"Whilst isinglass is a very effective means of clarification, and has been used for many years, we expect to stop using it as the new filtration asset is introduced. We are conscious that its use may represent a barrier to consumption of our products to some. As part of our ongoing efforts to further improve the way we make our products, we are seeking alternatives to isinglass,” said a Guinness spokesman.
