The alarming rise of obesity among school students in the U.S comes as no surprise as a recent report found that only one out of 10 high school students indulge in the required amount of aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercise. Further, to make things worse, nearly 25% of students consume at least one sugary soda every day.
The study to measure extent of physical activity among high school students, found that 12.2% of students were able to meet the Healthy People 2020 goal for aerobic and muscle-strengthening physical activity.
According to this objective, it is required to indulge in 60 or more minutes of aerobic activity every day along with some muscle strengthening at least three days in a week. The rest obviously did not have enough physical exercise to keep their weights in check, and consumption of sugary soda regularly only fueled the growing epidemic of obesity.
To boost the health of American children, The Healthy People 2020 have established 10-year national goals that endeavour to improve eating habits as well as make room for more exercise in the lives of students.
