Abujam Suresh, a 21year old lad had been complaining of a lump in his stomach since a year. He was taken to many hospitals for diagnosis and though specialists found a lump in his stomach, it took them a year to discover that he carried a partial fetus in his stomach.

The boy was operated by a team of doctors led by Dr L Joykumar at JN Hospital in Imphal. The surgery which took about 4hours resulted in the removal of a six kg fetus which was not fully formed but did have deformed hands, legs and stomach.

The condition called 'Foetus-in-Foeto’ in medical terminology, specialists felt that Suresh may have been formed as a twin in his mother’s womb. A deformity could have occurred which may have hindered the birth of twins and the fetus may have got transferred into Suresh’s stomach.

According to Doctors, the fetus may have been part of Suresh since his birth, sharing space in his stomach as well as consuming part of the food which also explains why Suresh had been losing weight.

At the time of admission into the hospital, Suresh looked as if he was seven months pregnant.

The fetus has been conserved in the hospital  and is now sent for further tests. The boy is recuperating after the surgery and is said to be out of danger.
