20-Inch Sword Removed from Skull of 15-Year-Old

Doctors in China removed a 20-inch sword from the head of a 15-year old after it accidentally stabbed him between the eyes when he was playing with his friends.

Zhang Bin and his three friends, one of whom had brought a Japanese sword, were playing at his house when the sword stabbed him in the forehead, penetrating 5cms into the forehead. He had to endure a four hour journey to Changsha after local doctors refused to operate, claiming that they were inexperienced.

Zhang then underwent a lengthy surgery after which the doctors were able to successfully remove the sword. One of the surgeons who participated in the operation said that Zhang was lucky since the sword had not cut any arteries or key nerves which would have proven serious.

"Luckily, the sword did not touch the arteries in the skull or any key nerves, otherwise it would have been a different story", the surgeon said.
