2-year-old With a Rare Disorder Undergoes Unique Laproscopic Surgery

Two-year-old Mohammad, the only child of a couple from Ratnagiri, suffering a rare disorder, underwent a unique laproscopic surgery that has given him a new lease of life.

Mohammad was suffering from a very rare congenital disorder called ‘Stridor’. Due to this disorder, the boy experienced difficulty in breathing accompanied by noise, right from his birth. He could neither eat nor sleep properly for the past two years.

The problem with Mohammad was that he had a severely dilated oesophagus. He experienced difficulty in breathing as well as in swallowing food. Due to this condition, he vomited frequently. Further, he was never able to enjoy a good night’s sleep.

Dr Ravindra Ramadwar, consultant paediatric and laparoscopic surgeon at Bombay Hospital performed a laproscopic surgery on this child for the first time.

The surgery was successful and the boy is recovering well. He is now learning to swallow food properly and is also sleeping well.
