What is Straight Back Syndrome ?  

Abnormality of upper thoracic spinal curvature, involving cardiac murmurs and radiographic cardiomegaly.


Cause(s) :  
  • Congenital malformation during bone development
  • Degenerative disk disease
  • Vertebral compression fracture
  • Spinal fusion surgery
Symptoms :  
  • Straight back at the thoracic spine area
  • Difficulty in standing up straight
  • Stooping forward, feeling of falling forward
  • Chronic back muscle pain
  • Anteroposterior diameter of thorax is smaller resulting in compression of heart
Heart symptoms:
  • Heart palpitations
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness

  • Clinical presentation
  • ECG
