What is Shoulder-hand Syndrome ?  

Disorder of shoulder movement, accompanied with shoulder pain, pain and swelling in the affected arm.


Cause(s) :  Shoulder-Hand syndrome can occur without any particular cause. But some conditions have been reported to have been followed by this condition.
  • Cervical spondylosis or cervical joint degeneration
  • Trauma
  • After hemiplegia
  • Myocardial infarction
  • Changes in blood circulation in limb
Symptoms :  
  • Fatigue and discomfort in the affected shoulder and hand
  • Sudden pain
  • Stiffness
  • Swelling
Stage 1:
  • Shoulder pain and hand pain
  • Difficulty in shoulder movement
  • Stiff wider range of shoulder pain
Stage 2:
  • Significant osteoporosis occurs in shoulder joint
  • Stiffness of shoulder
  • Difficulty in finger flexion and contraction
  • Muscle atrophy in the affected arm
Stage 3:
  • Contraction of palm and subcutaneous tissue
  • Finger tone affected
  • Frozen shoulder joint

  • X-ray of shoulder
  • Blood tests
