What is Froin's Syndrome ?  

Marked coagulation of cerebrospinal fluid and high protein levels in CSF is the feature fo Froin's Syndrome.


Cause(s) :  Caused by any type of irritation to the meninges like spinal meningitis, CSF flow blockage by tumor or abscess.

Symptoms :  
  • Numbness and tingling of extremities
  • Unsteady gait, lack of balance
  • Muscle cramps
  • Fluctuating blood pressure
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Loss of sensation of movement (proprioception)
Diagnosis and Tests :  
  • Clinical test
  • Lumbar puncture:
    • CSF is Xanthochromic (yellowish appearance)
    • High protein concentration in CSF
    • Partial or complete block of spinal canal
  • MRI Scan
