Quiz on Retroperitoneal Fibrosis or Ormond's Disease

Introduction:

Take this quiz on ‘Retroperitoneal fibrosis’ or ‘RPF’. RPF causes abnormal fibrous tissue growth behind and outside the peritoneum (the membrane surrounding your organs of digestion). The term ‘retro’ means behind or at the back. RPF can compress the ureter and inferior vena cava among other structures in your body.

The abnormal growth of tissue can be either benign or cancerous. RPF is rare and develops slowly with time and most often affects middle-aged men. In most instances the fibrous tissue can block the ureters (tubes that go from your kidneys into your bladder) and affect the kidney function. It can also compress the inferior vena cava (a large vein that carries blood to the heart) and cause swelling of the legs (1 Trusted Source
