Metronidazole (Flagyl): Antiprotozoal Drug to Treat Amebic Dysentery and Vaginal Infections for Patient Education


Metronidazole is an antimicrobial or antiprotozoal drug prescribed for treating amebiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, giardiasis, pseudomembranous colitis, rosacea, periodontitis, lung abscess, infections caused by entamoeba histolytica, dracunculiasis or guinea worm infection. Avoid alcohol consumption or foods containing propylene glycol during metronidazole treatment for at least three days after the last dose.
