Cyclosporine: Immunosuppressive Drug to Prevent Organ Transplant Rejection


Cyclosporine or ciclosporin is an immunosuppressant agent prescribed to prevent rejection of organ transplants of kidney, heart, and liver. It is also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, crohn’s disease, nephrotic syndrome,and to treat bone marrow transplantation. Taking cyclosporine with other immunosuppressant drugs may further suppress the immune function leading to the rise of infections; in such situations the patient should be kept under medical supervision.
