Life style and osteoporosis 

Patients with Osteoporosis develop a decreased normal bone density, which is caused by loss of calcium and collagen. The prevalence of Osteoporosis is high in women compared to men and the incidence is higher in women more than 60 years of age making them more prone to development of hip, wrist, spine and other fractures.Osteoporosis can be treated by increasing the bone density by supplementing food with calcium and Vitamin D, regular exercises, Hormone Replacement Therapy and medicines such as Calcitonin, Alendronate and Valoxifene.

Fracture

Bones are made of bone cells, proteins and minerals. Bones are storage banks where minerals are stored. Though they are tough they can break or snap under too much pressure. Fractures can be divided broadly into 6 broad categories, These are: 1.A Complete Fracture – Complete fracture occurs when the bone is broken into two pieces. 2.An Open Fracture - This is a condition in which the bone is sticking through the skin.3.A Single Fracture – This is a condition in which the bone has broken in just one place. 4.A Comminuted Fracture – This is a condition in which the bone has been broken into more than two pieces or has been crushed. 5.A Bowing Fracture –This is a kind of fracture, which is extremely common in children where the bone does not break as it is quite supple but causes bone bends. 6.A Greenstick Fracture – This is when the bone cracks on only one side and not all the way through.
