Understanding What LGBTQIA+ Stands For?
People who identify as LGBTQ+ https://www.medindia.net/news/homophobic-attitudes-could-negatively-impact-the-health-of-lgbtq-people-201868-1.htm have always existed, even if we didn't have the fancy language for it before. When we talk about sexual orientation and gender, it's a complicated and ever-expanding topic (13✔ ✔Trusted Source

- The "L" in LGBTQ+ Stands for Lesbian, which means a woman who's emotionally, romantically, or sexually attracted to other women.
- The "G" stands for Gay, and it's used to describe men who are attracted to the same sex or anyone who's attracted to the same or similar genders.
- The "B" Stands for Bisexual, which means being attracted to more than one gender.
- The "T," it stands for Transgender - These are people whose gender identity and/or expression don't match what society expects. Being transgender doesn't determine someone's sexual orientation. Some non-binary folks consider themselves trans, while others don't.
- The letter "Q" in LQBTQIA+ is quite interesting because it has two meanings. First, it can represent "queer," which is like an umbrella term for people who aren't exclusively straight or who have non-binary or gender-fluid identities. Queer used to be an insult, but some in the community have reclaimed it. The "Q" can also stand for those who are questioning their own identity.
- The "I" Stands for Intersex, which refers to people who are born with differences in their sex traits and reproductive anatomy.
- The "A," Which Stands for Asexual. This means people who don't experience sexual attraction or have an interest in others in that way.
- The "+" Symbol in LGBTQIA+ is pretty cool because it leaves room for all the other sexual identities and orientations that aren't specifically covered in the acronym. So, it's like an inclusive way of saying, "Hey, there's more out there!"
