South Beach Diet - Important Points

Food Manual of South Beach Diet

There is a strict consideration of the type of foods to be eaten in every phase.

Phase 1 -

This phase includes eating protein rich foods like chicken, turkey, eggs, shellfish, ham, fat free cheese, tofu, peanuts, pistachios, legumes, and green leafy vegetables. All carbohydrates will be restricted.

Beef, yoghurt, ice cream, milk, soy milk, full fat cheese, beets, carrots, corn, yams, fruits, fruit juices, alcohol, starchy foods such as bread, cereal, oatmeal, matzo, rice, pasta, pastries, baked goods, crackers should be totally avoided in this phase.

Phase 2 -

During this phase all the foods permitted in phase 1 can be eaten along with gradual introduction of high-fiber carbohydrates (such as whole-grain breads) and other low glycemic index foods (apples, berries, grapefruit). One can also enjoy fruits, fat-free milk, other low-fat dairy products, whole grain foods, barley and red wine.

Refined wheat baked foods, potatoes, beets, carrots, bananas, pineapple, watermelon and honey should be consumed in moderation.

Phase 3 -

This phase is dominated by foods, which are a healthy combination of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Foods to be avoided include sugar, rice, pasta, tuber vegetables (potato, carrot, beet etc), pastries, ice cream, bread, baked products, cheese and all cereals.
