- Stabbing pain accompanying the rash occurs in some people in the beginning, while in others it may occur only after the rash begins.
- The pain usually settles as quickly as the rash.
- If the pain continues after the rashes have disappeared it is called Post Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN). Sometimes the pain may continue for many months or even years.
- The rash may occur on any part of the body but only on one side. It will never cross the midline. This is because they appear on areas of the skin, which is supplied by one particular nerve.
- The rash appears as a band on one side of the chest or abdomen, or down an arm or leg.The most commonly affected sites of shingles are on the scalp or on one area of the fore head
- The blisters are filled with clear fluid and after they break open a crust is formed over them.
- There is usually itching on the site of the blisters.
- The blisters leave no scar on healing.
- Fever, chills, headaches and stomach upsets may also be seen in some cases(5✔ ✔Trusted Source
