e) Breast abscess:

  • The infected breast is filled with pus due to granulation of the tissue causing a painful swollen lump with edema (accumulation of pus).
  • In severe cases granulation and cell death (necrosis) can occur.
  • Breast abscess is diagnosed by aspirating the pus from the abscess.
