Diagnosis of Corneal Ulcer
A corneal ulcer is detected with the help of slit lamp examination.
An ophthalmologist uses the following diagnostic tests to detect corneal ulcer-
- Slit lamp examination- Using this special eye microscope, the doctor can see the corneal ulcer. An eye-drop containing the dye fluorescein makes the ulcer easier to see.
- Biopsy- Samples of the ulcer (biopsy) are sent to the laboratory for identification if an infection is suspected to be the cause of the ulcer.
- Blood tests- Blood tests may be indicated to check for inflammatory disorders that could contribute to the development of corneal ulcer.
