Conclusion
There are several deep-rooted perils inherent to egg donation.
Care must be taken to ensure that the health of the donor is never compromised. At a time when there is a universal dearth for human eggs, and fertility centers the world over are looking to countries like India, the potential for commodification and misuse is high. There is an urgent need for rules that are patient-, doctor- and donor- friendly to be formulated and implemented in developing countries. Incessant policing needs to be carried out by regulatory bodies and accountability must be reinforced. There is a need to promote altruism through public education.
Advances in scientific technology, such as those employed in ART, should be taken out of the clutches of a lucrative few and be made available to all those infertile couples whose dream is to have a child of their own.
