Glossary

Creatinine: A waste product produced by the body during muscle metabolism. If the creatinine level increases in the blood, this may indicate decreased kidney function.

Serum: The clear liquid left after the blood coagulates and forms a clot.

Fontanelle: The soft spots on a baby''s head where the bones of the skull have not fused together. At birth a baby has a fontanelle on both the top and back of the head.

Resuscitation: Revival of breathing or heartbeat after cessation or apparent death.
