Symptoms and Signs of Cat Scratch Disease
The following are the common symptoms of CSD:
- Pustules at the site of the scratch
- Fatigue /malaise
- Headache
- Nausea
- Low-grade fever in some
- Lymph node swelling near the site of scratch. Some have nodal swellings at multiple sites
The following atypical symptoms or complications are often found to be present in approximately 10% of cases:
- Encephalitis (confusion, disorientation, restlessness)
- Prolonged fever /Seizures
- Osteomyelitis leading to arthritis
- Thrombocytopenic purpura
- Splenic abscess
- Abdominal pain when present with CSD could suggests hepatitis or splenitis, which are self-limiting granulomatous condition.
- Vision loss (neuroretinitis)
- Respiratory problems
- Parinaud oculoglandular syndrome
