Using a plaster cast to treat scaphoid wrist fractures of the wrist is equivalent to surgery in healing the bone, as long as the few that do not re-join are identified and fixed. Despite a recent rise in surgical procedures to fix scaphoid fractures, it does not speed up the healing process of the bone.
