New Diagnostic Tool for Heart Disease

Atherosclerosis is the hardening of arteries. It has always been a strong indicator of coronary heart disease compared to the traditional risk factors of race, age, gender and metabolic profile. A new study has found that a useful way of assessing atherosclerosis can be by monitoring the peripheral arteries, which are easily accessible by ultrasound, thus becoming an important diagnostic tool.
