Silicon Nanoparticles to Combat Cancer

Nanoparticles are microscopic particles that have dimensions in nanometers. Silicon nanoparticles which are spherical in shape can be effectively heated up and could simultaneously emit light depending on the temperature, finds a research team from ITMO University. The research team found that when these properties are combined with good biocompatibility they will allow the usage of the semiconductor nanoparticles in photothermal therapy and nanosurgery.
