New Matrix Molecules to Restore Cardiac Function

Heart disease continues to be a leading cause of death in the world. The treatments may be unsuccessful when the heart tissue has suffered from some damage. The mammalian hearts could actually regenerate and repair damage, but could only perform the function up to the time of birth. A research team from the Weizmann Institute of Science has recently uncovered a molecule in the newborn hearts that could control the renewal process.
