SALT LAKE CITY, April 8, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On April 1st, Governor Gary Herbert signed SB 29, "Drug Disposal Program," into law. This legislation tasks the Utah Attorney General's office with establishing a program for the secure, and environmentally friendly onsite disposal of lawfully possessed controlled substances.

In the midst of the opioid epidemic, every effort must be made to prevent unused opioids from being abused. This bill will lead to the destruction of millions of unused pills and pharmaceuticals that otherwise would be susceptible to being stockpiled and sold illegally.

NarcX stands ready to help in the fight against opioid abuse as the only independently-validated method of onsite destruction in the United States meeting DEA's standard of non-retrievable. Former DEA Agent David Schiller said: "If prescription drugs that are no longer needed for those patients they were prescribed for are immediately destroyed onsite and not stockpiled, the diversion of these pills can be eliminated and lives throughout Utah, as well as the United States, can be saved."

We congratulate the bill sponsors, Senator Daniel Thatcher and Representative Eric Hutchings, as well as the entire Utah State Legislature for demonstrating leadership in a time of crisis. In partnership with the State of Utah through the drug disposal program, NarcX will work to ensure that every hospital, pharmacy, hospice, senior living center, law enforcement agency, and home can safely and securely destroy all leftover opioids, preventing them from falling into the wrong hands.
