Each spring, The Washingtonian asks close to 13,000 doctors in DC, Maryland, and Virginia area to nominate a colleague in each of the 39 specialties. To ensure data accuracy, nominating physicians are sent an online survey prompting them to log in with an active medical-license number registered in DC, Maryland, or Virginia. Doctors are only allowed to submit one ballot and are not permitted to vote for themselves. Physicians with the highest votes in each category are designated Top Doctors.
The prestigious award recognizes the best physicians in the region as chosen by their peers and is intended to help readers find top medical care in their communities.
