BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A September 9 article reports on the response to online criticism provided by notoriously outspoken superstar rapper and "Hustlers" co-star Cardi B. In a now-deleted post, Ms. B. spoke about the benefits of her procedure. Using the blunt and uncensored language she's noted for, the 26-year-old performer criticized her "haters" as being motivated by jealousy. To celebrate what she'd achieved with a little help from her doctors, the rapper shared Instagram images of herself in a distinctive thongsuit and lamented the days when her now generous derriere was "fun size." Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon Payam Jarrah-Nejad, M.D., F.I.C.S., F.A.C.S., aka Dr. J, says the rapper's unvarnished opinions express a growing consensus that plastic surgeries are one perfectly legitimate way for people of all genders to feel more comfortable and confident in their appearance – and that the opinion of self-appointed critics should not be a factor.

Dr. J points out that most plastic surgeries break down into two basic categories. The more pop-culture friendly type of procedures are designed to help people – who may already be extremely good looking – attract more positive attention by looking as fabulous as possible. These procedures are often exemplified by breast and buttock augmentation procedures and, in many cases, facelifts and rhinoplasties (nose jobs). The other type are procedures designed to help people attract less of the wrong kind of attention or simply to feel better physically. These include such lesser-known operations as breast reductions – often received by women to limit unwanted attention, deal with back pain, or to make participating in certain sports less difficult. Even less well known are breast reduction procedures for men with gynecomastia, a condition resulting in unusually large male breasts. In this case, the idea is clearly to attract minimal attention as men with this issue are dealing with a great deal of embarrassment.

Whatever the reasons for a procedure, it's unfortunate that so many people feel called upon to criticize celebrities – and, by implication, non-celebrities – who decided to obtain procedures that help them to feel better about themselves, says Dr. J. He adds that the anonymity of much of the Internet has freed a small but extremely vocal minority of people to exercise their most unpleasant instincts. The best strategy, says Dr. J, is for plastic surgery patients past, present, or future, to ignore the voices of opinionated strangers and consider the only point of view that really matters – their own.
