CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 5 icyou today announced theaddition of a new channel creation tool to its online healthcare community.Presenting each user with their own home page on the icyou Web site as acompletely customizable channel, this innovative resource eliminates the needfor users to wade through extraneous information. Instead, by designing theirown searchable healthcare channel that hosts all their uploaded videos, icyoumembers can instantly connect to other users' videos that pertain to theirpersonal interests.

"We are very excited to introduce this new feature and empower our userswith more individualized options," said Nina Sossamon-Pogue, vice president ofBenefitfocus Media(TM). "The ability to create channels offers contentcreators another avenue for sharing their videos and even more importantly, anadditional opportunity to build a greater sense of healthcare community withother members."

Available to anyone with a free membership, an icyou channel provides allusers with a blank canvas to communicate their own healthcare-related story.Individuals, patients or institutions can customize their channel whichincludes a Home tab, a Video tab -- that acts as a directory for theiruploaded videos and a Community tab -- where users can become fans of otheruser channels. By allowing each member to tag their favorite videos and keeptrack of who is watching theirs, this last feature fosters two-way interactionand encourages the open lines of communication that characterize icyou.

This new offering's central feature is the Healthcast, which resembles aplaylist that allows users to organize their favorite videos. A channel ownercan upload as many videos as they would like into their directory and thensimply drag and drop up to 18 of their favorite videos into the Healthcast, inthe order that best suits their purpose. The videos contained in theHealthcast can be clicked and played instantaneously without an additionalpage load. This user-friendly and accessible tool makes it possible for thoseof any computer literacy level to post and navigate videos uploaded by others.

Largely initiated by feedback from users requesting a feature with thesekinds of abilities, the channel offering now meets the needs of icyou members.Channel owners have the capability to manipulate options such as the color ofthe page foreground and background, logos and images, and privacy andnotification settings. Users can also populate their page with various socialbuttons, enabling them to share their channel on an even broader scale.

"The primary objective driving this new feature was to mimic the immediateand accessible experience delivered by the niche channels on a television. When individuals go online to explore the world of healthcare, we want them tobe compelled to join the community and in doing so, create their own space onthe Web that is personally relevant to them," said Sossamon-Pogue. "Theability to develop an individual channel is very useful and applicable tohealthcare because within this field, there are many specific issues that aredistinctive for each user. By creating their own channel from scratch, peoplecan produce and share exactly what they want."
