Over 200 people attended the "Children of the World" event, a magical evening on the Penthouse floor of the Hotel on Rivington. Guests celebrated 70 years of Sheba, and of the state of Israel, and its unwavering dedication to provide humanitarian medical relief to children and families worldwide.
Sheba is sometimes referred to internally as the Hospital Without Borders. It provides the most advanced medical care to anyone in need without exception. For decades, doctors have been treating children from Israel, Gaza, Syria and more at Sheba Medical Center. The modern medical miracles that are experienced at Sheba save children's lives every day.
In addition, Sheba doctors are often the first emergency responders on the ground to help victims of natural disasters and mass casualty incidents. Dr. Elhanan Bar-On, Director of the Israel Center for Disaster Medicine and Humanitarian Response at Sheba, spoke at the event last night about the hospital's incredible work from earthquakes in Haiti to cholera outbreaks in Zambia to restoring vision to the blind in Papua New Guinea.
"Sheba is on the forefront of cutting-edge medical care with one mission save lives regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or nationality," said Gili Gibli, the Chairman of the Young Professionals of the American Friends of Sheba. "It is so uplifting to see the young Jewish community come out to support and recognize this incredible hospital."
"There were hundreds of supporters here," added Mira Bar-Mashiah, President of American Friends of Sheba who also spoke at the event. "This was an enormously successful event that went way beyond our expectations. It's gatherings like these that allow Sheba doctors to do their vital and lifesaving work throughout the world."
Actress Mili Avital hosted the event, held at a stunning triplex Penthouse with a roof deck showcasing breathtaking Manhattan views. There were special live performances by Yemen Blues, Live DJ Mickey Perez and a guest appearance by DJ Spooky.
