Electric blankets are available in acrylic, polyester, and cotton blends.Microfiber, microplush, and micromink are just some of the names used to marketthe different blends. Electric blankets can also be found in traditional typeweaves, such as herringbone or box stitch.

Heated mattress pads are produced in polyester, cotton, or a blend thereof. The most luxurious ones have lofty quilted tops like traditional mattress pads. This season has even seen the introduction of the world's first waterproofheated mattress pad.

Electric bedding controls range from the simple with manual dial up to thesophisticated with LCD display and interchangeable cover plate to match yourhome decor. Heat settings vary by control from 5 to 20 adjustment points, andmost include a timer with auto-off function. There's even a low voltagecontrol that meets UL standards for non-hazardous voltage.

Wiring in heated bedding runs anywhere from 3/16" diameter to so thin thatthey are virtually unnoticeable. Many products have the wires closer togetherat the foot end than they are at the top to help you stay comfortable all over.

The biggest innovation this season is the zoned heated mattress pad. Queenand king sizes have been available for years with two controls for independenttemperature settings on each side of the bed. Now each of those sides can beseparated into three zones for head/shoulders, mid-section, and legs. If youlike your legs really warm, or only your upper body warm, then this is themattress pad for you.

Between the luxurious nature of today's heated bedding, thin wiretechnology, and truly customized comfort, you may just want to use your electricblanket or mattress pad all year round.
