Online platform offers educational programs to encourage better sleep and healthier habits among employees

DARIEN, Ill., May 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On the heels of a new systematic review published in the Journal

of Clinical Sleep Medicine that found simple workplace interventions – like educating employees about the importance of sleep and providing behavioral sleep strategies – may produce beneficial results, the Welltrinsic Sleep Network is reminding employers to consider the role sleep plays in workplace wellness programs. The network's online platform, which launched last October, provides comprehensive sleep education tools that exemplify the review findings by offering employers a turnkey online resource to supplement human resource benefit offerings.

"It is no surprise employer efforts to encourage improved sleep hygiene and healthier habits have yielded improvements in sleep duration, sleep quality, and self-reported sleepiness complaints in most studies," said Welltrinsic President and CEO Dr. Lawrence Epstein, a board-certified sleep medicine physician. "Improving sleep not only impacts workplace productivity, but it may lead to better quality of life and decreased absenteeism from work. With a program like Welltrinsic, employers can equip their staff with tools that can help them achieve optimal performance through better sleep."

The review was published in the April 15 issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine. It was conducted by representatives of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Sleep Research Society (SRS) as part of the National Healthy Sleep Awareness Project, a five-year cooperative agreement that concluded in 2018.

Based on the results of the review, the authors developed 12 suggested workplace strategies that employers can implement to promote healthy sleep among their workforce. One of these strategies includes providing a sleep education program for all employees. The Welltrinsic Sleep Network platform steps up to the plate by allowing employees to:

1.    Learn how to live healthy by sleeping well, through a series of sleep education videos that explain the important role of sleep, describe common sleep disorders, and provide strategies to improve sleep and alertness; 2.    Identify their "sleep wellness score," set personalized goals for improvement and track progress on a custom dashboard; 3.    Receive individualized sleep coaching tips to improve their sleep habits; 4.    Earn rewards from their employer by remaining engaged with the program; and 5.    Understand their risk for sleep disorders and gain access to a network of board-certified sleep doctors.

"Fatigue is a hidden danger in the workplace," added Epstein. "The Welltrinsic Sleep Network wants to help employers take a more proactive approach to addressing sleep hygiene and fatigue management with their employees."
