BOTHELL, Wash., March 11 Verathon(R) is pleased toannounce a new Small Child Mode for the portable BladderScan(R) BVI 9400bladder volume instrument with patent-pending NeuralHarmonics(TM) Technology.Small Child Mode enables health care providers to measure bladder volumenoninvasively on children weighing less than 60 pounds and standing less than48 inches high with the same instrument used for adult patients. Thisenhanced BladderScan(R) BVI 9400 will make its official debut at theAssociation of Peri-Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) conference in Anaheim,CA on April 1. (Verathon Booth #785)

BladderScan(R) portable ultrasound instruments, the gold standard inbladder volume measurement, help diagnose urinary retention, evaluate commonurological conditions and prevent unnecessary catheterization.

The newest BladderScan(R) in the line, the BVI 9400, now with Small ChildMode, allows Urologists, Primary Care physicians and Acute Care facilities tostandardize on one bladder volume instrument for all patient age groups. TheBladderScan(R) BVI 9400 also incorporates NeuralHarmonics(TM) Technology. This patent-pending advance in the science of ultrasound helps improve bothspeed and accuracy in bladder volume measurement. NeuralHarmonics(TM)Technology helps achieve previously unattainable differentiation of thebladder, urine and hypo-echogenic regions such as the uterus, thereby reducingerror and minimizing uncertainty in measurements of bladder function.

"The new BVI 9400 with Small Child Mode and NeuralHarmonics(TM) Technologyoffers health care providers a comprehensive bladder volume instrument fortheir practice or facility," said Gerald McMorrow, CEO, Founder and Chairmanof the Board of Verathon, Inc. "The BVI 9400 not only measures bladderfunction for patients of all age groups, it also offers the ease of use, reliability and advanced technology health care providers have come to expectfrom the BladderScan(R) brand."

Unlike other ultrasound machines the BVI 9400 is quick and easy to use; nosonographer is required. When the scan button is pressed, the instrumentmeasures ultrasonic reflections on multiple planes inside the body andproduces a three dimensional image. Based on this image, the BVI 9400calculates and displays the bladder volume on the color console, and offersaiming assistance (if needed) to the user, on both the probe and the console. The user can select either a hard copy print out from the machine or anelectronic medical record (EMR) related report. To facilitate training, both a"user" video and a "NeuralHarmonics(TM) Technology" video are provided on thedevice.

Customers who have already purchased BVI 9400 instruments may upgrade thesoftware on their devices to include Small Child Mode using HIPAA-compliantScanPoint(R) online technology from Verathon(R). Besides receiving softwareupgrades, ScanPoint(R) subscribers enjoy quick, easy online calibration oftheir BladderScan(R) instruments and the ability to view, save and printbladder measurement reports.
