Better advances design thinking to drive even greater patient engagement and clinical outcomes.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today, Better Therapeutics, a company developing prescription digital

therapeutics for the treatment of severe cardiometabolic diseases, announced the appointment of Kristin Wynholds as Head of Design. In this recently created role, Kristin leads all user experience and visual design efforts, and incorporates design-thinking into the development of Better's prescription digital therapeutics.

"It is well understood that user experience design is a key driver of engagement, and we are thrilled to have a design leader of Kristin's caliber lead this effort at Better," said Kevin Appelbaum, CEO. "By integrating evidence-based clinical programs with user experiences that produce high engagement, Better is developing effective new treatments for a range of diseases caused by behaviors."

Kristin joins the Better team from Carbon Five, a digital product development consultancy, where she was most recently Principal UX Designer. During her tenure at Carbon Five, Kristin led more than 30 client engagements, including healthcare clients Stanford Health, Guardant Health, and Grand Rounds.

Prescription digital therapeutics use regulated software to treat disease. High patient engagement with the software that is sustained over time plays an important role in producing meaningful clinical outcomes through behavior change, and is analogous to the role of adherence in prescription drugs. In a recent clinical trial in diabetes, individuals who engaged more often achieved 40% better outcomes (the lowering of blood glucose or HbA1c) than those that engaged less often.

"Technology provides unprecedented proximity and access to patients, but technology alone can only put a clever application into people's pockets. Skillful design can turn that application into a coach - a guide - a teacher - a sounding board - a confidant, creating digital medicine that heals, instead of just a tool," said Kristin.

Kristin's work at Better began with the redesign and recently launched corporate website, presenting the company's value proposition to each primary healthcare constituant - patients, providers, and payers. Next, design efforts will focus on delivering a highly engaging curriculum of cognitive behavioral therapy lessons, skill-building modules and personalized treatment plans for patients diagnosed with one or more cardiometabolic diseases.

About Better Therapeutics Better relieves the burden of disease caused by behaviors using digital therapeutics that treat serious cardiometabolic diseases. By integrating elements of neuroscience, lifestyle medicine, and artificial intelligence, the company has created a new modality for treating a broad range of conditions that share common root causes. The company's digital therapeutics have been validated in peer-reviewed and published clinical trials. Better is beginning to commercialize with health plans, while pursuing FDA clearance to its first prescription digital therapeutic in diabetes. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, and has business operations in Boston, MA, and Nashville, TN.
