BOSTON, Oct. 14 -- Uno Chicago Grill® is once again taking a stand to help find the causes and treatments for children diagnosed

with autism by feeding over 20,000 expected participants at Walk Now for Autism.

The walk will be held at Suffolk Downs, 10:30 AM on Sunday, October 18th and benefits Autism

Speaks, the country’s leading autism advocacy organization.  Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States, affecting one out of every 150 children.  This year, more children will be diagnosed with autism than with diabetes, cancer and AIDS combined.

UNO® also sponsored last year’s event and fed over 18,000 walkers with 10,000 slices of pizza, one-half ton of Caesar salad; 5,000 hot dogs; and an orchard full of apples.  Sixty-five volunteers produced and served food; 200 employees and restaurant managers participated in the walk, and an additional 200 employees, including the CEO, COO and upper management team assisted with the day’s events.  As a result, UNO raised thousands of dollars for autism and received the “Good Neighbor Award” for volunteerism.

Rick Hendrie, senior vice president of marketing, Uno Chicago Grill says, “We’re excited to be working with Autism Speaks in our home market of Boston for the fourth year.  Recently, we’ve expanded that commitment to Autism Speaks in support of their New York City Walk.  This year, our support will be duplicated at events in Baltimore, Washington D.C., New York City, Chicago and Florida.”

UNO recently supported Autism Speaks in a big way by holding Dough Rai$ers(SM) on Labor Day weekend in participating Massachusetts locations.

Registration and check-in for the walk begins at 9:00 AM.  For more information visit

Editorial Note:  We invite you to participate with our volunteers to hand out food at the event, or speak to one of our representatives about the effort that goes into feeding 20,000 walkers.

About Autism:

Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by extreme behavioral challenges.  Autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed in one in 150 children in the United States, affecting four times as many boys as girls.  The diagnosis of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown.

About Autism Speaks:

Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, to funding research into the causes, prevention and treatments for autism, and to advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.  It was founded in February of 2005 by Suzanne and Bob Wright, the grandparents of a child with autism.  Bob Wright is Senior Advisor at Lee Equity Partners and served as vice chairman, General Electric, and chief executive officer of NBC and NBC Universal for more than twenty years.  Autism Speaks merged with both the National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) and Cure Autism Now (CAN), bringing together the nation's three leading autism advocacy organizations.  To learn more about Autism Speaks, please visit
