UBCF Supported Hundreds During Recent Pink Bag Event® at Barclays Center

Breast Health Education & Cancer Prevention Event a Great Success

NEW YORK, April 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) hosted the incredibly successful Educational Outreach and Pink Bag Event® at Barclays Center on Wednesday, April 3rd. Barclays Center, home to the Brooklyn Nets and New York Islanders, is located in the heart of Brooklyn, NY. UBCF thanks Brett Yormark, CEO of BSE Global, which operates and manages Barclays Center, for generously donating space to help facilitate the Pink Bag Event®. This was UBCF's first Pink Bag Event® in Brooklyn, NY. UBCF provided education and giveaways valued at approximately $2.12 million to nearly 600 people.

The Pink Bag Event® kicked-off at 8 a.m. and continually serviced people until close at 3 p.m.Throughout the event, education, entertainment and fun giveaways were made available to those in attendance. The Family-Friendly event featured Jim Leyritz, a two-time World Series winner and retired New York Yankee. Jim chatted with clients and signed baseballs for fans throughout the event. Jim later shared, "UBCF does such meaningful and important work. It was an honor to be a part of the Pink Bag Event." Jim continued, "I look forward to partnering with UBCF again in the future to help continue to educate and eradicate the devastating effects of cancer which touch so many families today."

Keeping the energy high all day long was a DJ from 106.1 BLI and the band, Society Road, playing live music during the afternoon. Fantastic performing artists engaged the crowd, including live performances by Caterina Rago, Darell Thorne, Amelia Heintzelman and Veronika Rabinovich. Makeup and face painting was provided by Megan Coyle, and drawing tutorials were offered from Aleathia Brown.

Additional organizations and practitioners attended the event providing critical breast health education to all: Brooklyn Hospital Center, SHARE, CancerCare, Casting for Recovery, Integrative Family Wellness, Sharsheret, T.E.A.L., and Colette White Yoga.

The event was free and open to women, men and children; Breast Cancer Patients, Survivors and those interested in learning about Breast Health and Cancer Prevention. Many clients serviced during the event shared kind words of gratitude, including Ms. Denise, "Thank you so much for having me at the Pink Bag Event. It was great speaking with the people at the tables and gathering information to help me through breast cancer. Thank you for the free swag and meeting Jim Leyritz from the Yankees too!"

UBCF's Executive Director, Ms. Stephanie Mastroianni shared, "This event was by far our largest impact in terms of clients serviced. Knowing that we helped educate and support those in need makes all the hard work worth it." Stephanie added, "We hope Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets felt the value of UBCF's impact on the community and we look forward to the possibility of future endeavors."

UBCF's next major event will be held this Spring in the Philadelphia, PA area. The Spring Tempur-Pedic(R) Mattress and Pink Bag Event(R) is open to Breast Cancer patients, survivors and their children 18 or under. Additionally, UBCF will also be hosting a Tempur-Pedic(R) Mattress and Pink Bag Event(R) in Melville, NY this Summer. Those interested in learning more may contact [email protected].

Breast Cancer impacts us all: 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime and this year, an estimated 2,670 men will be diagnosed with the disease. Early detection saves lives. UBCF encourages women and men to learn the self-breast exam and recognize any changes. Those in need of a breast screening can find assistance through UBCF's Breast Screening Program – available to women and men of any age. The program covers all screening technologies including mammography, ultrasound, thermography and MRI.
