WELLESLEY, Mass., May 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Less than a year after the sale of the first Dolores One Speech Enhancement Device, Dolores Speech Products is excited to announce that two major teaching hospitals in the United States and one in the Netherlands have procured systems for their Intensive Care Units (ICUs) to help improve patient care and satisfaction.  Starting as a chance stop at a tradeshow booth in San Francisco, both of the domestic orders were initiated by pulmonologists immediately seeing the limitless value of being able to restore the natural speech of patients in their care.  The first system was purchased by a major institution in central Michigan, and on Wednesday, March 15th, four units were purchased by a world renowned teaching institution situated in north Dallas.  Filling an unmet need in the critical care community, the Dolores One overcomes communication challenges arising from both invasive and non-invasive ventilation for patients, family, and caregivers.  The system is designed to capture vocal cord vibrations through an acoustic sensor, process and filter the signal through the control unit, and broadcast the patient's own voice through the integrated speaker.

"The installation of these most recent five units are a further testament to the power of the human voice and participation in one's own care, especially for patients with compromised and declining health," said Chris Boyer, Vice President.  "The pace of innovation in medicine is inspiring, and new tools continue to provide the hope of longer, active, and fulfilling lives.  However, in spite of these advances, the interactive connection between the patient and the doctor will continue to be the most critical in solving the most intricate and delicate of health issues.  Asking and answering, 'where does it hurt?' is not soon to be replaced, and the Dolores One will continue to provide that indispensable, verbal link."   Giving the patients a voice in their own care and outcomes is a critical path in many late stage situations and can give rise to very different pathways of care.

Four years after going through his own challenging experience with his wife, Dolores, the company's Founder, John Hamilton, Sr. is ecstatic to see his system help others avoid what he and Dolores went through.  "The emotional stresses experienced by patients, caregivers, and families from the instant loss of verbal communication are harrowing.  It is rewarding to see that the Dolores One is beginning to overcome these impediments to speech created by life-saving respiratory therapies."
