OAKLAND, Calif., May 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Plantrician Project is bringing the premier "food as medicine"
Globally, chronic, lifestyle-related diseases are rising at epidemic levels and the rates of overweight and obese populations continue to escalate unchecked. In parallel, healthcare costs for most of the countries around the world are reaching critical, unsustainable levels. The good news, however, is there is growing awareness among patients and health professionals that dietary lifestyle is the root cause.
"As more consumers become aware of the power of nutrition and lifestyle changes to prevent and reverse many chronic lifestyle related diseases, it's imperative that we equip clinicians with the evidence-based research and training they need to confidently counsel their patients on the importance of consuming a diet predominant in nutrient-rich, minimally-processed whole plant-based foods necessary to prevent, suspend and reverse lifestyle related diseases," said Dr. Scott Stoll, Co-founder and Chairman of The Plantrician Project.
The conference objective is to help fill the gaping void in medical education, as most practicing physicians have received, on average, only 20 hours of clinical nutrition education during their entire medical training. This, despite evidence that shows poor dietary lifestyle is a primary driver of chronic, non-communicable disease across the U.S. and around the world. The scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports the efficacy of a whole food plant-based dietary lifestyle for the prevention, treatment and reversal of chronic disease. This subject matter, and practical application thereof, will be showcased during the conference, with a commitment to intellectual integrity and without bias or influence.
"The alarming chronic disease trends in the U.S. and around the world are being driven, to a large extent, by poor dietary lifestyle," said The Plantrician Project Co-founder Susan Benigas. "It's imperative that we reach physicians and medical professionals who are on the front lines of educating, equipping and empowering their patients with what the science shows about the impact of food choices on optimal health or lack thereof. We feel an enormous sense of urgency."
The International Plant Based Nutrition Healthcare Conference will be held September 22-25, 2019 at the Marriott Oakland City Center in Oakland, CA showcasing many of the leading experts in the field, including Drs. Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, Kim A. Williams, Joel Fuhrman, part of an impressive conference faculty. The conference is produced by The Plantrician Project, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to providing educational events, tools and resources for healthcare practitioners and those they serve.
