CLEVELAND, July 14 The A.M. McGregor Group, a direct provider and benefactor of housing and services for seniors in Cuyahoga County, has purchased Overlook House - a 25-bed nursing facility atop Cedar Hill near University Circle -- from the Christian Science Church.

The facility, in the City of Cleveland on the boundary of Cleveland Heights and adjacent to the historic Herrick Mews neighborhood, will reopen in early fall as McGregor at Overlook.

Although McGregor at Overlook will be a separate nonprofit corporation, it will share the housekeeping, maintenance, dietary, and administrative resources of McGregor's nearby main campus.

The Christian Science Church closed the 60-year-old nursing home at the end of last year because of the expense of operating a stand-alone facility.

Related to the purchase, McGregor has committed formally to support "Guidelines of the Herrick Mews Neighbors Association" to help maintain the area's unique character. The Mews were once the stables and carriage houses of Myron T. Herrick, a prominent industrialist, Ohio governor, and U.S. Ambassador to France.

"Our intent is to help relieve the critical shortage of long-term care beds on Cleveland's east side," says R. Robertson Hilton, president and chief executive officer of The A.M. McGregor Group. "Moreover, we intend to respect the beauty and integrity of this special neighborhood."

The A.M. McGregor Group owns The A.M. McGregor Home, which includes the Gardens, a nursing facility with 148 private rooms on a 32-acre tree-lined campus in East Cleveland. In addition, the Group owns the adjacent McGregor Home, which includes 70 mixed-income independent and assisted living apartments. McGregor residents come primarily from Cleveland's inner-city and inner-ring suburbs.

The Group also operates The McGregor Foundation. Since its founding in 2002, the Foundation has distributed in excess of $6.5 million to more than 200 programs supporting seniors in need, primarily in Greater Cleveland.

The A.M. McGregor Group traces its roots to 1877 with early support from Standard Oil Company founders.
