ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Aug. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- 70 students participating in the 14th Annual Texas 4000 for Cancer ride, the longest annual charity bicycle ride in the world, will cycle into Anchorage, Alaska Friday, August 11, completing an epic journey raising funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. The 2017 ride began in Austin on June 3rd with cyclists separating into three routes across North America. Friday's finish line culminates the 70-day, 4,500-mile adventure beginning at The University of Texas at Austin, which included delivering $335,000 in grants to cancer research and support service organizations. While in Anchorage, the riders will connect with local community to share stories of hope, knowledge, & charity and participate in a fundraising dinner.
After 18-months of leadership development, training, volunteering and fundraising, the riders are put to the test. The students brave all kinds of weather and road conditions while pedaling more than 4,000 miles in the fight against cancer. During the past 14 years, over 650 students have made the trek from Austin to Anchorage, collectively raising more than $7 million in the fight against cancer since the ride began in 2003.
